I've been E-mailing the ER team directly with updates about Bike Week events and encouragement for the team's efforts. This one I just had to share with you all. We were sitting at third place in miles, which is a very respectable showing. I told the team they were kicking butt. I guess that encouraged them to go get their bigger boots:

1,711 miles. We've ridden enough this week to travel from here to Santa Barbara, California.

Good job everybody. Thanks for all that you're doing.

Don't forget, there's one day left in the Challenge after today. It's still not too late to sign up and add miles (we can even do it retroactively, if you've got some in already). Walking, busing, and carpooling miles count. Tonight at 6 pm we're having a trail ride and new-to-mtb clinic at the Shawnee Mission Park trails (Marina parking lot) where the KCMO bike/ped coordinator tells me she'll be visiting and handing out goodies. Then Sunday, we party at Boulevard to celebrate riding all the way into the Pacific Ocean. We'll probably be halfway to Hawaii by then. These folks must have really big feet.

Let's go ride,

By that last screen capture ER still has a higher rider:mile than Garmin. ER=37 / Gar=32 ... Congrats to the Garmin folks, though. 8) Great to see a big corp promote this kind of stuff. Give-a-give-a-give it up for them.

Wish I could have been of more help this week but too many afterwork happenings popped up this week for me to do the 74mi round-tripper. I'm riding to yoga session tomorrow morning so that will add only a measly 8/rt. :(

For some reason the Car-Free-Challenge doesn't excite my office mates at Toyota. I just can't put a finger on why?

Of course they don't love Car-Free week - but many of the bike-to-work treehuggers are your future Prius buyers!

I know you were all worried about me, so I wanted to let you know that I made it in this morning without mishap. But, man! Those hills I walked up yesterday sure are a lot harder to ride up...

Channel 9 reported on the 10 o'clock news last night that KC had the highest number of bus riders ever this week, but no mention of the Car-Free Challenge/Bike Week :?
