Walked Stocksdale Today

Postby carlrf on Sat Jan 02, 2010 5:14 pm

Yep, went and bought some of those hand and foot warmer packets and headed out with the grandson Cole. Walked the whole loop. Has been a lot of foot trafic out there but no tire tracks. After you get out of the field and in to the woods I actually think the rest is rideable. I am contemplating trying to ride at least the old loop tomorrow.?????????????

I walked the old loop tonight with the dogs. I agree that it is likely mostly rideable. It is packed down fairly well. I was snowshoeing out there last weekend and there were no other human tracks. Looks like a lot of folks have been out since then.

Tried to ride the trails today. Got 1/4 to 1/2 mile I guess and gave up, snow was too deep for me. :( Carried the bike back to the truck. A stronger rider would probably have done ok on most of it. Saw Neal and Neal and Matt packing it down with snow shoes. Might get better if they keep doing that!

Walked it again today with Kyle. It was tougher going the other directon (old loop first). Snow snow snow coming down. I have got to do something to stay active and this works pretty good. I am as tired as if I rode two loops, maybe more actually. Get out there, it's beautiful. You don't hardly notice the cold if you prepare. It's easy to over dress. :)

Leo and I walked it with Rosie yesterday. It was tough work in the snow but like others have said, it's fairly packed down in places and from what I saw, the whole trail is walkable even with short boots. Besides the drifting on the field trails, I never sank more than 2 inches in the snow.

Even at 0 degrees, I was plenty warm after the first mile or so. The more people that walk it the more packed it will get, maybe bikes will work here soon if it doesn't melt so much that we just have mush.
