A Moment In Time

Postby rtkegger on Wed Apr 21, 2010 9:07 pm

Tonight had some of the best conditions I have seen on BuRP in 2 years. The mud holes along the river trails are dried up, The single track was fast and sweet along these flat trails. Mud holes that never dried up last year were gone. I could not believe it. After blowing through these I crossed over at the horse trailer lot into the Basement Trail and hit most everything on that side. Except for some minor problem areas, the trail was mostly dry and fast. This is the driest I have seen these trails in a long time. It may be that I was feeling good, the trails felt good, but it was a ride to remember. I cleaned some sections of trail that has always kicked my b** before. I thought about going to Landau or Smithville, I am glad I didn't. I only saw 4 police officers on a training ride and 3 other mountain bikers. It was me and my bike and it felt good. Sorry to say, if you missed tonight and the 60% chance of rain comes true tomorrow, it could be a long time before we see these trails this dry and fast again.

Thanks for the post.

I did SMP Tue 'cause I feared lousy conditions at BuRP.

I'm trying to gather up a posse for a workday Sunday (4/25) afternoon to try to address some issues on the Basement trail--see my other post.

A very wet year+ hasn't helped the trails...and some of the use while they were damp has caused damage that keeps them very wet in spots long after the rain. I hope to work on a number of the worst spots with that problem in the near future.

The more people who can help, the better luck we'll have fixing the problems and keeping them in better shape.

Keep the fire lit Rob. BURP needs some lovin' and I know a lot of folks like riding it. Get on out there and put you time in if you like riding this system. Eventually it is going to be part of a very large connection of trails with the Swope connector. I know it can be frustrating at times, but if we get folks to pitch in it can be maintained.
