BRP's Demise

Postby Insomneous on Mon Jun 28, 2010 9:59 pm

...has been greatly exaggerated.

Rode there tonight and it was in pretty good shape despite the issues with bad weather, bonehead users and lack of use. It needs some love and hopefully the trailcare crew will get out soon (me included) to trim it back. What it can use more than anything is people riding there. And often.

I'm going to make a concerted effort to start making Taco Tuesdays and I hope to get a bunch of other folks to do the same. We can't just let 15 miles of trail go bye bye...it only took three plus years to get seven-miles at Swope. So how many years would it take to replace double that mileage if we just decided to walk away?

C'mon back, folks, she ain't so bad.
If I agreed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

So Scooter are you officially heading up a TT ride out of there? Maybe an organized effort that left on a regular schedule at a standard point of departure might get the numbers up on Tuesday. I'm just sayin', but what do I know....

Thanks for the report and spreading some optimism about BRP.

I'd be glad to lead a ride Tuesday nights starting in July (tomorrow is not July, friends); however, I attempted group rides for years and could never get anyone to show so I stopped. So don't freaking disappoint me this time. Starting next week, I'll lead a group out around sixish. We'll let pace and length be determined by the group. If all goes well this could go through August too.

Wheels on the dirt...save BRP so one day, and soon, we'll have 50-60 miles of singletrack in the center of KC. WOO HOO. Something I never would have imagined back in the 19 hundred and eighties when I started riding that little crap park grown over and neglected by all but drug dealers and renegade ORV drivers tearing @ss around the mud while slinging beer cans out their windows.

Now, if you have trail you care for out there, please get to it right away. We get it trimmed back and the wheels will be rolling it, which will give it new and much-needed life.
If I agreed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

I can lead the group ride tonight around six. Same deal, pace and length determined by the group. I'll be in the silver Pontiac, Black Specialized Enduro & IMBA jersey. See you there.

Hey gang, I'm really excited. Riding BRP last night was such a revelation. It's weird, after riding there for 23 years, I had gotten tired of it. I know every rock, root and tree like the back of my hand. It seemed entirely new last night. The same old challenges, the same technical sections, etc., but I'd forgotten how well it flowed in certain sections and how challenging it could be in parts. Mucho fun. Get out and get you some. I know I will.

I've always been a huge fan of Burp, not only can I ride to one of the trail heads from my house, but its also one of my favorites in the area. Yeah it gets a little rough in the srping, the horses suck, but its got a little bit of everthing from super tech rock gardens to smooth flowy trails. Its also the first trail I ever rode on in KC, so it will always have a special place in my heart. Now if I could only get the new house done and find some time to ride and make it to workdays.

+1

I've left more blood, skin, sweat, and tears on BRP than anywhere else in town. It will always be my favorite even though I'm closer to SMP and Kill Creek.

Just wanted to say "Hello" from a new guy to the site......

Lastnight was the first night I have ever rode the BRP trail (since I live riding distance to SMP, and Mill Creek backs up to my house) And I have to say that without a doubt, I will be making this a weekly event!

Sadly I took a huge header last night right near the final couple hundered yards of my ride, up in the "upper" section. And my brake lever became the victim of the rocks. Hopefully I can find one before next week, so I can try and make it out tuesday.

Thanks all,
Erik

Welcome to the nuthouse Erik.

Have you tried Kill Creek or Swope yet? If not, I'd suggest making them a priority.

I haven't been able to say this for a while, but it's a great time to be a mountain biker in KC.
