I haven't gotten around to logging on at home and putting in my mileage, for whatever it is worth.

I didn't sign up for a team, because there were two or three different ones I felt like I should sign up for, and didn't want to play favorites or something.
I'm always up for more opportunities to ride my bike and socialize.

They asked if I rode communted in the last year, and it was over a year ago. Does it make it better that I'm still on the bottom of the list of new communters?

Bike to work

Postby steved on Tue May 15, 2007 10:44 am

If memory serves me right we had at least twice as many riders last year.

I'm putting up a challenge. Nick, my 9 year old has signed up. He rode to school yesterday & went with me on errands last night. Thats a little over 5 miles. He'll get a couple more bike to schools in & maybe some more errands. I'm figuring at least 10 miles.

DON'T LET HIM (9 YEARS OLD) LOG IN MORE MILES THAN YOU!!!!!

YES!!!
I found where I can make up all of our miles... My lunch time walk to get food. That counts, and at .25 miles a day, our totals just went up!

I had to go pick up my trusk last night at my son's school. That was an extra two miles. We're packing them on now!

I biked today, 13.5 miles each way, left to target between showers this AM. Almost worked. Hit a 10 penny concrete nail on highway 9, stuck in my rear tire. Kept hearing a metallic "CLICK-CLICK", and pulled over to find it in my rear tire. After 7 minute pit stop on my fixed gear, back on the road. A Riverside cop stopped just as I was finishing to give me protection from the cars w/ his flashing lights--oretty sweet! Made it there in 67 minutes counting the pit stop. 56 min home, no flats (hillier, and WINDY on the way home)--stopped by my 6 y/o daughter's dance studio to see her finish dancing. Passed by a little police action on the way (you know how we are up here in 'da North hood). Counted 13 police cars (Parkville, Riverside, KCMO, State Patrol at 64th St. and N. Cosby Dr.--had to be a robbery or hostage situation. I hammered on to get out of the way. Don't like guns when I'm riding. FUN RIDE.

PS, It's my birthday today, so it was super special--rain, flat tire and all.

I think tomorrow will be the hardest day for me. Third day is always the hardest on tours. After that you're just all numb and it doesn't matter.

bike to work

Postby steved on Wed May 16, 2007 4:58 am

Good ride in this morning no close calls. A little cold, my feet froze.

Is it to early to make plans for the post party at Blvd brew. I'm usally not up for this kind of thing but since it's at Blvd I'm in.

I say a little urban pre/post ride. Where would be a good place & time to meet. Westport? Waldo? River Martket?

Shiver me timbers! it was cold.

Of course I put caution to the wind (pun intended) and wore my usual roadie attire. YES a colorful team jersey and butt hugging lycra! what a sight it must be...

I had no issues except for like my 18 a hillbilly in a pick'em up truck pulled out in front of me... No problem but then he allowed me no room to move around him... NICE :(

If you guys looked at yesterdays motion based you noticed my HR was high... JGC mentioned it to me last night. It seems that it *is* my average HR when I am doing shots... Today is an example of what my HR is when I am not off of them... TMI?

This mornings Motion Based Trip Log

Stats this morning wrote:Teams by mileage:
1. Garmin Bleeding Edge (305) 756.71
2. EarthRiders 625.13
3. Cow Town Cycling Team 383.18
4. Team OP 295.60
5. Johnson County Bike Club 281.10

Last night I rode all the way home from work - because the North Wind propelled me home.

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=753042

Here's the route, pretty much downhill all the way from KCI (112th and Ambassador) with a killer hill (not shown on the elevation) just south of Barry Road on North Green Hills, then the Heart of America bridge is uphill too.

Surprisingly, Waukomis Road is not too bad to ride on. It is narrow but pretty level North to South.
fixed or free, just ride yer bike!

Details:

John Nickell, ex-Marine, new back to area. DOING FINE. Xrays pending, helmet on, helmet trashed, head fine. Shoulder injury only apparent at this point. Spirits good, alert, doing well.

He was biking from Parkville to Zane Architecture downtown. Hit as he crossed the ramp to/from Hwy 69 at Hwy 9--one of the two "pinchpoints" I have mentioned previously, as I bike this same route (was there exactly 24 hours prior to John). Clipped rear wheel by an old guy not paying attention.

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE FOLKS!!!
