Monday night ride revival!!! 4/22

Postby PlanetTony » Sat Apr 20, 2013 8:12 pm

So long as the forecast is remotely accurate, I say we plan a big ol' ride party for this Monday at Stocksdale and get this Spring/Summer kicked off, already!

We've added or modified some things on the "Skillz Loop" that really should be enjoyed and I'd be more than happy to serve as tour guide/coach/advice-giver to anyone that wants to give any of it a shot:

BRAND NEW teeter totters of the "less difficult" 12' x 18" w/ 12" high pivot & "more difficult" 16' x 12" w/ 24" high pivot varieties
Recently-added 12" left-side exit on the "Get Skinnier" structure that started it all last year
Several various-height rock ledges/ups and a 2" x 6" ramp up/level/down skinny

There are, of course, the various railroad tie skinny's along with the (seemingly feared..?) Matrix of telephone poles & skinny's we put in place last year, too.

So, pencil in a trip to the North(East)land Monday night, keep an eye on weather & I'll keep you posted on trail conditions. The trails were 90% bone-dry with a few stubborn "damp, but not soft" spots that shouldn't last much longer, as of this evening - ready to RIP!!

*** if a little bit of "scattered showers" does sneak through, I will likely still plan/hope to make a party out of it, even if we can "only" enjoy the Skillz Loop ***

C'mon out!

OK....so....maybe I was a wee bit optimistic....or....just really excited to get a gaggle of folks together for some SWW fun, but current hourly forecast has my exceptional plan not looking so good...rain chance going from 30% to 60% at, you guessed it, 6pm.

So...I'm still gonna head out there, but just a weeeee bit early...like...3 o'clock or so! I'll circle by parking lot each lap if there are any other "I can go early" types. And hell, if the rain comes late, we'll just get extra trail time! If it comes early...well...SUCK!

Ride on.

I won't be able to make it out there tonight but I'm hoping to get out there ASAP once the trails are dry after this upcoming rain...

...I must say you guys are doing an excellent job on Stocksdale. It's a blast.

I'm going to try and get out there by 5 or 5:30 depending on how early I can leave work. I hope the rain holds off but if not I'm definitely in for next Monday.

Yeah...I quit posting updates when it seemed each update was rewarded with accelerated rain forecast...

I (yanno, the job-less turd) went ahead and got some laps in mid-day today, but headed home to eat, shower, re-prepare and was just about to hop back into truck and head back up there since the forecast was seeming so wrong...when...the drops they a started falling.

Oh well, there will be many more Mondays....

FWIW (or just to be really mean?), the trail was 98.746% perfect as of 3pm...

I haven't heard anything about trail conditions. If they are found rideable before 4 or so, I think I'd make it.

It was still pretty sloppy in the corner I was adding ~90 feet of elevated boardwalk to, this morning, but that is exactly why I was building boardwalk in that area... ;) ...it IS warm and breezy, though - I still have my hopes up & optimistic.

I think Clay and/or Matt will check it out mid-afternoon and report back. I'll bet the main (Phase 1 & 2) trail is probably good with a few wet spots, but I'm doubtful re: the north loop (phase 3)...

Fingers crossed, and checking back often,
T

We had a nice revival of the Monday night Stocksdale ride last night. I think we started off with over 20. Excellent night on and off the bike.

That wasn't a revival. We have been riding most of the summer on Mondays. Although that sounds like the best turnout so far. I was enjoying Colorado last Monday, sorry I missed out.

Whatever it was, let's do it again tonight! I mean...I wasn't there last Monday, but seems the stars might have aligned just right where I can join in the fun this evening.

I'll try and be early, but will be there by at least 6 :D
