Leatherwood vs Mt Kessler

Postby lewis17web » Mon Oct 09, 2017 7:42 am

Heading to Bentonville in a week. Have 4 days to ride. Will hit the obvious spots there. Interested in driving a day and hitting Leatherwood or Kessler. Never been to either. Like the techy rock in KC. Any preferences for either spot? Looks like Leatherwood has more miles. I've heard good things about that spot. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Leatherwood gets my vote due to overall miles better mix of tech and not so tech better views. Also Kessler has the best trail closed right now for rerouting so it is smaller than ever and the fun section is off limits.

Big Earthriders will be basing a weekend of riding out of Leatherwood November 3-5. Info in group rides section and on the Earthriders Facebook page under events.

I thought Lake Leatherwood was okay. It reminded me a lot of what Truman Lake is like.

I felt Kessler was more like KC trails, but from the information I have heard that they are dumbing it down a lot. I think they took a lot of the natural feel out of it, but I haven't been in a year and I'm getting 2nd hand info.

I never did get away from Bentonville. Rained last weekend. Bentonville was awesome though. Certainly worth the trip down. Definitely some serious money going into trail building down there. Locals told me Kessler was supposed to open back up in the spring but some of the old cool technical spots will be forever lost, unless rogue trail breaks out.

I've heard Kessler is super awesome again. They did take out some trails, but I've heard it has been replaced with options and still has the same feel that it used to only better.

I'm hoping to make it down there before the new year.

Can't speak for Leatherwood but Kessler was my favorite in the area as compared to Back 40/Slaughter/Blowing Springs... Like mentioned - much like KC trails. Swopey limestone croppings & ledges, some rock garden, but mostly good clean flowy trail that was most fun for me being on single speed. Coler is great but I need a bigger bike. I didn't see any closures 2 weeks ago and we rode every bit of it.

Does this mean you've never been to Leatherwood, my all time favorite place to ride in the whole universe? You need to make that happen ASAP, I guarantee (money back!!!) that you will like it very much.

It causes me mental anguish to agree with Joe.

Can't eat it all in one sitting. This gives me plenty of reasons to go back down there.
