I've had my own experience...a couple years ago I was hiking SMP, trimming with a machete (and maybe a pulaski). Ran into a few families hiking along the way, and as I emerged from the dam trailhead, walking back to my car at the marina, a park officer stopped & asked me if "everything was alright".
