During the winter when the gate is locked to get to the trailhead, park near the southern shelter house and ride your bike past the gate along the small gravel road to get the the trailhead which is about 200 years north of the main entrance. From April through October, the gates are open and you can drive to and park at the trail head. You can find the latest map at the MOPac ST facebook page here:
and soon on the MTB Project app and web page.
There are currently 4 trails to ride. The trails are generally beginner level, however the northern parts of Blood Sweat and Ticks, as well as Lake Shore Drive get technical.
Trail rules are similar to those around the rest of Kansas City. Specifically:
- Use trails at your own risk.
NEVER ride trails when wet or muddy. Doing so destroys the trails.
ALL cyclists must wear helmets. Eye protection is recommended.
Ride within your limits.
Stay on the trails and do not make new trails, short cuts or venture onto private land.
These trails are for mountain biking, hiking, and trail running only.
Horses and motorized travel of any kind is not allowed.
Do not litter. Pack out what you pack in.
Be respectful of other lake users and the lake’s neighbors. Keep noise to a minimum.
All pets must be on leash at all times and you must clean up after your pets.
Finally the trails may be partially, or completely closed during duck and deer season. Policy will be finalized with the City prior to the 2017 hunting seasons.
